This is the focus of the JISC-funded SusteIT project which recently featured in the Education Guardian (8th May 2008) and is due to publish interim findings this June. The project has been conducting a scoping study to establish the impact of current and projected ICT usage. It plans to identify cost-effective methods for reducing energy consumption and environmental impact, such as methods for maximising use of existing ICT and new approaches to network configuration which promise to deliver significant environmental benefits.
As well as interviewing 40 key stakeholders the project is compiling a series of ‘mini cases’ highlighting innovative practice. A series of workshops is planned to disseminate good practice. Confirmed dates are energy efficient data centres (Cardiff, 19 June) and new ways of working ( Edinburgh, 21 August)
